This season saw the First XV, under the captaincy of Terence Gilbride and coached by Eric Butler, consolidate their position in Herts/Middlesex 2 North by finishing 3rd after the previous year’s promotion. Overall the performances throughout the season saw the team develop week on week, and hopefully this can be continued and built on as we push for promotion into Herts/Middlesex 1 next season. The 1st XV reached the Middlesex Vase Final for the second season in succession. Unfortunately this went the same way as last year’s final, with Hendon losing out 19-13 to Old Isleworthians in a closely fought contest. The 2006 Hendon 7s was a day of fast running, competitive rugby and an enjoyable day was had by all. The Hendon 7, captained by Cosy Matuma, were the winners of the Plate competition. However this form couldn’t be carried into the Middlesex Club 7s where both the 1st and 2nd 7s were knocked out at the group stages.
We also saw the re-introduction of a 2nd XV, known as the Super 2s to most. This was set up mainly by former club captain Laurence Lennon. All in all the season proved a steep learning curve for what was a very young side (with the exception of sick note Shanahan and Lennon). A lot of the sides we came up against had streetwise old boys, of which Hendon now require a couple for the team to develop to the next level. This will be regular competitive rugby by joining the Herts Middlesex Merit Table. The Super 2s season read as follows: 2 draws, 4 wins, and quite a few defeats!
